All of our coach staff are certified by USA Archery to provide safe, accurate instruction and coaching. We emphasize building upon fundamentals and encourage lifelong learning in the sport of Archery. No matter your amount of experience, our coaches will provide tailored guidance to suit your skill level.
Coach Byron Burkhardt is the Head Coach and owner of Trident Archery, LLC, and is a USA Archery Certified Level 4 NTS Coach and member of the National Field Archery Association.
Since 2012, Coach Byron has volunteered as the Head Coach and Chairperson for the South Bay Archery Club's Junior Olympic Archery Development and USA Archery Adult Programs on Saturday Mornings. Along with the great staff at SBAC Coach Byron has instructed and coached hundreds of students who have come through the program. Through his dedicated coaching, Coach Byron has produced two national champions with both archers placed on the Jr. US Archery Team, and has multiple archers medal at the National Level while achieving high National Rankings.
In addition to his full-time position at UCLA and rigorous coaching schedule, Coach Byron does find time to compete in Olympic Recurve, and in addition to competing in the prestigious Vegas Shoot finished 9th in the State Indoor Championships Masters' Division, and finished 37th in the USA Archery National Indoor Championships for 2017.
Coach Byron was also the silver medalist in the Masters Recurve Division for both the 2017 U.S. Masters Games and the 2017 California Games.
Coach Byron served 10 years(1985-1995) as a Navy Hospital Corpsman(HM2 SW) serving with both the Marines, on board the USS Ranger for 22 months, as well as various other duty stations.
Coach Byron is a graduate of El Camino College, and is also a Cum Laude Graduate of California State University Dominguez Hills with a BA in American Studies/Minor in Labor Studies with honors in the Major. In addition Coach Byron is a lifetime member of the Fraternal Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and has been on staff at the UCLA Clinical Laboratories Department of Microbiology for the past 25 years as a Hospital Laboratory Technician III serving as the Safety and Instrumentation Officer.
Joy Burkhardt ihas a passion for sharing her love of the sport of archery. Joy has been competing for the past four years in the barebow recurve discipline, and through her hard work and dedication has earned the top ranking for her division in the State of California for 2018. Joy has also been awarded the Prestigious State Archers of California Trifecta Award for Masters Barebow Female, which is bestowed on archers who complete the three ranking tournaments and finish with the #1 ranking for their division. Coach Joy also holds three CA State Records and finished 4th in the nation for 2022 in the Masters Barebow Female Division taking Silver at the USAT Socal Showdown and at the US Open and Target Nationals. In addition Coach Joy has been slelcted for the US Archery National Team(USAT) and is now sponsored by Team Fivics.
Joy is also a US Navy Veteran who served 10 years as an HM2 Advanced Laboratory Technician.
Joy has been on staff at Torrance Memorial Hospital for the past 17 years as a Clinical Research Coordinator.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family(many times shooting together)and watching movies.
Kyle Tanouye is a USA Archery Certified Level 2 Instructor who fell in love with Archery in 2018 and has since been an active competitive archer who enjoys sharing his passion for archery with others.
